Looks Like Lady Stoneheart’s Watch Has Ended

newmediarockstars.com

For those that are somehow unaware, the disconnect between HBO’s Game of Thrones and George R.R. Martin’s book series which it is based off, A Song of Ice and Fire, is only growing with each passing season. The fact that Game of Thrones has surpassed the books only means that the show creators get to run with their divergences while the eventual release of The Winds of Winter will most likely see a similar end, but the journey may be vastly different. If you somehow aren’t further along in the books, this might be a bit of a spoiler, so be warned.

One such divergence was the complete removal of Lady Stoneheart from Game of Thrones. Lady Stoneheart — the resurrected Catelyn Stark — only briefly appeared in the novels near where Martin left off, implying that she was most likely going to be pretty important moving forward. In fact, she even left Brienne of Tarth to hang by the neck for failing in her duties. The show has obviously greatly diverged from there, just like they have with Sansa as well. But if the book fans of the world were eagerly awaiting the reveal of Lay Stoneheart in Game of Thrones, it looks like it simply isn’t happening.

Michelle Fairley, the actress who played Catelyn Stark, is out there picking up roles in new television series, which is usually a sign that her ‘watch has ended’ in Game of Thrones. Fairley will be involved in the Starz original series The White Princess, a followup to The White Queen. She will be portraying Margaret Beaufort, the mother of Henry VII through the historical take on the War of the Roses, which won’t be a huge departure, considering A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones relied heavily on that period in history.

But, seriously, it looks like she’s done with Game of Thrones and that she won’t be returning to bring vengeance down upon those that betrayed House Stark anytime soon.
