TV Shows like Friends, How I Met Your Mother, Game of Thrones etc. have taken a considerable space in our minds and screens. They have become a part of our daily lives and we have given references of these shows often to our friends and families. But, have you ever considered the Why and How?
How did the writers of the show come up with the idea to make such an awesome show? Did you think what went into the writer’s mind while writing the show? Did you consider what went behind the making or what originated the making?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then this post will answer most of your questions. Here we are with the top shows and the ‘idea’ that originated their concept.
Ideas Behind The Making of Your Beloved Shows
Friends
This famous show was the birth child of David Crane and Marta Kauffman.
They decided to pitch the idea of “six people in their 20s making their way in Manhattan” to NBC.
The idea was conceived when Crane and Kauffman thought about their time after college. Kauffman believed that they were looking at a time when the future was “more of a question mark”. They felt that everybody knows the feeling and thus, will find the show relatable. Rightly so, the show still holds a special place in our hearts.
How I Met Your Mother
This show was Carter Bays and Craig Thomas’s idea. They thought to “write about friends and the stupid stuff they did in New York”, where they worked as writers. Ted’s character is based on Bays, and Marshall and Lily are based on Thomas and his wife.
Modern family
Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan while reciting stories about their families, realized that the stories can work great as a show. They worked on the idea that resulted into a mockumentary. They later decided to focus on three families and their experiences.
Game of Thrones
This famous and loved show was a result of David Benioff’s phone conversation with George R. R. Martin’s literary agent. He became interested in A Song of Ice and Fire and so, the agent sent its first four books to Benioff. He read a few hundred pages of the first novel, shared his enthusiasm with D. B. Weiss and suggested to adapt Martin’s novels into a TV series. The rest is history and we are still confused as to whom should we thank more, Martin or Benioff?
Prison Break
The original concept was suggested to Paul Scheuring by producer Dawn Parouse. The idea of a man deliberately getting into prison in order to help someone escape ignited the interest of the makers. Scheuring was initially stumped but later managed to come up with a good story.
Interesting, isn’t it?
